BIOGRAPHY: The Rones
4 years ago on a Belgian stage somewhere : The Rones had their very first show. A bunch of rookies, unexperienced, just a couple of albums in their collection at home. But then already it was pretty clear they had plenty of brains and the balls to match.
A series of shows all over Belgium followed. When they won a local music contest Limbomania back in 2005, the crowd wasn't that taken with the decision, perhaps mainly out of jealousy. OK, their shows weren’t consistent enough and perhaps it was their cocky youth (not even 20 at that time). The Rones made up for it with enormous drive, steadfast in their music and more importantly tons of talent. A local producer Luuk Cox (Shameboy) also noticed this and took the boys to the countryside for their debut EP ‘Nonsense&Crackwhores’.
The EP got great reviews, although their influences (QOTSA and Nine Inch Nails) were sometimes a bit too present. The press agreed, this band had a lot of potential. Time for the next step : with a record deal signed, The Rones headed back in the studio with Luuk Cox.
So the debut : SINNER SONGS. And an impressive one we might say. 11 songs of turborock with shrieking guitars and pumping beats. Trashy, industrial layered with the menacing voice of Lenn Van Meeuwen. Dark guitars with razoredged electronica. The Rones sound slutty and with a sting. But they don’t put out.... The acoustic ‘Coqotte’ is a welcome breather after a ride from hell. But you can’t shake the feeling to reach for the repeat button.
SINNER SONGS is a kick in the nuts, a kick that you knew was coming all the time. But you forgot to duck. And man ... that hurts. Enjoy
