BIOGRAPHY: Garage Sauvage

The debut album introduces the new sound by Garage Sauvage (Nico Maho & Thomas Vanelslander). A thrilling mix of electronic beats, rock guitars and the soothing voice of Thomas. Throw in a pinch of good 80s melancholy and you get an album that from start to finish sweeps you off your feet, throws you to the ceiling, shakes you around 360° and leaves you breathless. Yet you wonder why you’re reaching for the replay button.

Nico Maho on computer, sampler and synthesizer wizard was predominant for the Garage Sauvage sound. He got his first mixing table from Oliver Adams (Praga Khan) and met Luk Van Acker at the Galaxy Studios through whom he landed there as a tea boy. Gradually moving up at the studio he collaborated with several artists, such as Zita Swoon, Spearhead and many others. At one point he became the steady assistant of CJ Bolland resulting in a big friendship. He assisted CJ on several of his singles ("It ain’t gonna be me", “Nothing really ends” by dEUS, Magnus).
It was at that point that Nico started up his own project. While looking for an all-round partner in crime he found Thomas Vanelslander.

Thomas Vanelslander went through the inevitable grunge- and punkrockbands in the 90s, learning the skills of the instrument and the art of performing. From bar to club, from party to festival. While in college he started roadying for Raymond van het Groenewoud and in the end even replacing the guitarist. Since then he worked with or still plays with STIJN, Woodface, 4T4, A Brand, Jasper Steverlinck, Luc Crabbe, Gorki, Baloji, …
His lives his life on the stage, and he’s responsible for turning Nico’s fat grooves and spheric sounds into songs. He also provides the catchy lyrics that don’t mind expressing a genuine feeling or telling a story, although a profound understanding of Nietzsche or Wittgenstein is not required.

They called their project “Garage Sauvage”, as they felt that this name and the sound of it covered what they and their music stand for.

The album was recorded over the past 6 months in their home studio and mixed by CJ Bolland and Jakke De Ryck (Daan, Gabriel Rios, etc). In the middle of preparing the live set to conquer the 2008 stages, this album is the perfect way to end 2007. And it makes you ache for the new coming year.
